Are all polyps early cancer?
I recently had a colonoscopy and had several polyps removed, although my doctor said I was fine. Are all polyps early cancer?
No, must polyps are not cancers. Polyps are small growths in the lining of the colon and most are benign. They usually are flesh colored and can range in size from a pea to a grape. If allowed to grow larger over many years, genetic changes will occur within the polyp that will eventually allow it to turn into a cancer. If the polyp is removed during a colonoscopy while it is still small, it will never be allowed the chance to become cancerous.
