When I drink milk I feel bloated and gassy. Could I be lactose intolerant?
The main sugar found in milk and other dairy products is called lactose. Some people don’t have enough lactase, which is the enzyme needed to break down the sugar for digestion. This can result in symptoms like nausea, cramps, bloating, gas, and diarrhea when lactose is ingested, and this is what is referred to as lactose intolerance. These symptoms can also be found in other conditions, so you should speak to your physician who may want to order further testing.
