Q: I am 32 years old and have been experiencing chest pain recently. I am healthy and exercise regularly, so I'm sure it isn't my heart. My friend suggested in could be acid reflux, but I don't feel heartburn. Is this possible?

A: Regardless of age and health status, anyone with chest pain should seek medical attention immediately so that appropriate testing can be done to rule out heart disease. It is possible for people to have chest pain as a result of acid reflux even without experiencing heartburn. Chest pain can also indicate pulmonary (lung disease), anxiety or inflammation of the muscles in the chest wall. Discuss your symptoms with your physician so the appropriate work up can be initiated.
